About the Album
Shark Infested Waters was the first full-length collaboration between Fubar and DJ Rhum’1 and the first official Shark Brothers release. Across 14 tracks, the album establishes the dark, aggressive identity that would become associated with the crew, combining hardcore battle rap, horror imagery, braggadocio, and a large cast of underground collaborators.
Beneath the battle-heavy exterior, however, tracks such as “Thick Skin,” “Sleepless Nights,” and “Bats in the Belfry” reveal a more introspective side. Depression, anxiety, guilt, mortality, aging, and the use of writing as catharsis begin surfacing alongside the aggression. On “Thick Skin,” Fubar describes turning stress into artistry and continuing to write without expecting fame, foreshadowing themes that would become increasingly important throughout his later work.
Ultimately, Shark Infested Waters is both a dark hardcore rap album and the origin point of the Shark Brothers world: the moment the imagery, sound, collaborators, and predator mentality came together under one name.
