This project is something I put together over a week last May when I didn’t have a laptop and needed something to do. When looking for options, I stumbled on a folder (on a OLD laptop) of beats I made in the 90s for other MCs who never laid vocals to them. I was originally going to do an instrumental release of those beats, but since I needed something to do, I decided to time travel back to that time and write a full mixtape capturing and celebrating that time.

The RAGE CAGE was my home studio circa 1986-1995, and this is mixtape showcasing the sound of that era. In short, it’s a bunch of battle rhymes, along with some abstraction, a few personal reflections, a teasing of some Vocal Violence (what I called my primary style back then), an Electro Vocoder Jam, a Hip House track, and lots of celebration and shout outs of people, places and things I remember about the Lake County Hip Hop scene circa 1986-1995.

For many, many years I have wanted to do either a documentary or write a book to document the Lake County scene (1986-1995) but have hit so many walls getting people to participate or tell me their stories, or get me the other tools I need to make it possible. I’m hoping this will encourage people to get on board…

This is the third release in the “To The Max (Maxi-Single Series)” (of seven in total), where each single is three versions of the same song (different beats), all produced by DJ Freddy Fresh, and all the cover art was done by Orikal Uno. The series is meant to mimic the 12” singles of the 80s/90s that were often heavy on remixes. But it’s also meant to be a showcase of DJ Freddy Fresh’s incredible range and expertise as a producer, covering a wide variety of styles, while also challenging me as an MC as well.

Purple has always been my favorite color, and the second verse actually tells the story of how that came to be. The first verse is more of an abstract approach that I wrote after going down a rabbit hole reading about the history of the color purple, and then just incorporating those ideas and references into a verse.

For all 21 beats in this Maxi-Single series, Freddy Fresh let me pick anything I wanted from his extensive catalog over the years (all on Bandcamp), so all of these beats are previously released, and below is info on the OG versions, so YOU can dive deeper into his catalog if you aren’t familiar…

I was sitting in the car listening to some older Caribbean struggle music records one day and came across something I thought was the perfect sample… but since my beat lab is temporarily down I decided to hit Q up and ask him to flip the record for me cuz he never misses, ever… he sent back something so beautiful I wrote and recorded the track that night. Soon as I was done I realized I had a bunch of these old island records in the cut that would create a really unique, personal and soulful vibe for a Hip Hop album so I asked Q if he would flip them ALL for me lmaooo… I asked him this knowing he was already in the middle of a million projects at the time which probably makes me a terrible friend but he obliged… I chose 8 records for him to flip and he sent me back 8 of the best beats I’ve ever rocked on and 10 days later we had an entire album recorded and mixed 🤯🤯🤯 1 producer, 1 MC, no features 💪🏼 added an intro today that’s absolutely brilliant… talked to one of my guys about doing the video for our lead single “Swinging”… set the digital release for January 1st and then we’re doing a full physical run through Omega Level Records shortly after!!!

Every song is amazing… by far some of my best writing… Qs beats are out of this universe and sound nothing like any other project out right now… the way these songs go in and out of each other and never lose track of what the album about is something I’ve never achieved before… the mix sounds so full and warm…

“Swinging” is the strongest lead single I’ve ever dropped and 1 of these other songs will go down as one of the top 5 most important songs I’ve ever made in my opinion

Underground hip-hop legend Warcloud, formerly known as The Holocaust, is set to release a boundary-pushing album, Pinky Violence, in collaboration with the genre- blending duo Wakizashi Jabberwockyz. Infused with sukeban, a rebellious, female-led subculture from Japan, Pinky Violence promises an explosive mix of gritty hip-hop, Japanese exploitation film influences, and a taste of cosmic horror.

Warcloud, renowned for his 2006 self-titled LP produced by Blue Sky Black Death, takes his rugged storytelling to new heights alongside Wakizashi Jabberwockyz. Formed nearly a decade ago, Wakizashi Jabberwockyz consists of Okami Ghosthack (aka OMEGAH RED) and 7Rinth (aka Zen Studentz), who initially worked on an unreleased debut, Nekojiru'z Apartment. Thanks to veteran A&R M-Eighty, the duo connected with Warcloud, setting the stage for the creation of Pinky Violence.

Named after a Japanese film genre celebrated for its strong female anti-heroes, Pinky Violence brings cultural homage and intense energy. "Bitches and guns go together like Oreos and milk," says Okami Ghosthack, summarizing the album's unapologetic approach.

The album’s singles include “Pomeranian,” produced by Godfingaz and inspired by Noboru Iguchi’s Ghost Squad (2018); “Wan Shi Tong” by Lord Beatjitzu, with a cosmic horror-inspired hook by Ghosthack’s creative writing cousin; and the title track, produced by Spearman, featuring Killah Priest and Tracksuit Draculaz.
